Red/blue/yellow worn with the 23d inf Recon beercan. Id seen it in a book close up atop a skull. Thought it was in Bowman’s LRRP book, but I was wrong. Love any input. Stoney

Stoney Here is a 23rd LRRP beret from my collection that’s pretty much the same as the one in the photo, although mine is missing the yellow tab above the flash (possibly ranger?). Interestingly, mine is on a US made Bancroft beret from the 60s. Flash and beercan DI are Vietnamese made. - Jakob

mikeD Posted May 29, 2024 #206 Posted May 29, 2024 Hello, Can anyone identify ANY of the soldiers in this photo or their unti? My wife's father is pictured to the far right....he was a Sargeant (E5) with the 3rd Bt., 82nd AB, who appears to have been in an early LRRP unit. This photo was taken in mid-1968, before the formation of the 78th Infantry LRP Detatchment. His specialty designation in that year was "11F" (Infantry Operations and Intelligence Specialist). Thanks in advance!
seanmc1114 Posted June 13, 2024 #207 Posted June 13, 2024 Photos of members of Company O 75th Infantry, the LRRP unit of the 3rd Brigade 82nd Airborne Division, both in the rear and in the field.
Ironheart Posted August 28, 2024 #208 Posted August 28, 2024 What? No mentioning the Self proclaimed Youngest Most Decorated bad rump Green Beret, Special Forces, LRP proclaimed the movie RAMBO was based on his life. Who led the famous Christian's Butchers to such glory that even General Patton IV praised him as second only to Audie Murphy is not mentioned? Who claimed that he was nominated for the MOH 3 times, DSC, 2 Silver Stars, 2 Bronze w V, 2 Air Medals with V, Army Commendation w V, 7 Purple Hearts plus the usual medals all earned within a 7 week period while only in country for only 6 months and as he claims served as a Captain in Vietnam and COMMANDED OVER YOU GUYS!!! How Ironic that I can't find this guy's name in any After Action Reports.....hmmm Stolen Valor sent me his DD-214. Sure is different than his ....hmm book of tales Victor Six and the public claims! How come this guy is not in prison? Oh, that is only done to EM who embellish and profit. How ironic that he is praised by all his Political allies whom he helped raise Millions for their causes. So tell me Veterans, did his proclaimed championing for Veteran's rights and benefits ever come true? Or did the 100's of Millions raised ever reach you homeless neglected veterans? Because he sure benefited! I have spent years deep diving this guy and he is a freaking Ghost in the Army Records
Ironheart Posted August 28, 2024 #210 Posted August 28, 2024 I wonder if Bill Goshen knows him- same outfit in the LRPs. The men who served with in the 1st Infantry Division with F company, 52nd Infantry, (LRP) later redesignated as Company I, 75th Infantry (Ranger) --engaged in some of the fiercest, bloodiest fighting during the Vietnam War, suffering a greater relative aggregate of casualties that any other LRRP/LRP/ Ranger company. Their base was Lai Khe, within hailing distance of the Vietcong central headquarters, a mile inside Cambodia, with its vast stockpiles of weapons and thousands of transient VC and NVA soldiers. Sadly we will not know. He passed away.
Ironheart Posted August 28, 2024 #211 Posted August 28, 2024 Billy James Goshen Jr. August 28, 1948 — May 10, 2018 On Thursday, May 10, 2018, Billy James Goshen Jr., 69, of Marble Falls, Texas, left this earth for his eternal home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, May 18, at Jenkins Funeral Home, 109 N. Main St., Burnet, Texas. Interment will follow at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park in Burnet. Bill is predeceased by his father, Billy Goshen Sr.; his mother, Dorothy Day Hall; his stepfather, S. Rex Hall; his brother, Terry Hall; his sister, Sherry Hall Hayt; and his beloved wife of just under 46 years, Jackie Coble Goshen. He is survived by his two brothers, Timothy Goshen and Michael Kelly Goshen; his stepmother, Bea Henry; his son, Kurtis Goshen; his daughter, Wendy Holtz, her husband William Holtz and granddaughter Eleanor Holtz; along with his nieces and nephews and many adopted brothers, sisters, sons and daughters. Bill loved his family dearly. He was passionate about hunting and fishing with his son and never missed any of his high school football games. He also invested in his daughter’s education and musical passions by giving her voice lessons. His wife was his pride and joy. Her smile lighted his face, and he called her his queen. The two were inseparable for many years and have now been reunited. Bill would also consider his military brothers his family, as he faithfully served our country in the Vietnam War, earning both a Purple Heart and Silver Star during his time of service in the US Army Company 1, 75 Infantry Ranger, 1st Infantry Division. Bill was an Airborne L.R.R.P. Ranger, and even after being medically retired from the military, continued honoring the Red, White and Blue by leading various patriotic rallies, writing and sharing various articles and poems to honor our military and Civil Servants and authoring his autobiographical work entitled, WAR PAINT. Bill was born on Aug. 28, 1948, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, but spent the majority of his life in Texas. He was a Texas Rangers and Texas Longhorns fan. Bill was a man who was passionate about freedom. He lived his life to help others find hope and peace. After a successful career in sales and business in his 20s, Bill decided to become a minister of the Gospel. He was a pastor, a chaplain and a counselor for many veterans. In his later years, a person could often find him in the Marble Falls Starbucks, drinking a coffee and sharing his faith with everyone around him. He personally found freedom in Christ and wanted everyone else to experience the same. Bill’s last year and a half were spent in Waco, Texas. He continued to write while he spent time with his wife and father-in-law. He also entertained assisted living residents with his singing. He wore an American flag pen on his lapel and never lost sight of the price of freedom. May we continue to carry the torch and remember that “freedom is never free.”

My father served as an LRP with the 74th Infantry Detachment. This is his team photo. The second picture features Patrick Tadina, who also served with the 74th Infantry Detachment. Tadina, of Hawaiian descent, spent five consecutive years in Vietnam, leading hundreds of missions without ever losing a single man. His background allowed him to blend in and pass as the enemy, and he often walked point dressed in black pajamas, carrying an AK-47. This created a brief moment of confusion among the enemy, which he used to his advantage, striking before they could react. At times, he would deliberately take off running, luring the enemy back toward his team, who were set up and ready to ambush the pursuing soldiers. The last picture shows Staff Sergeant Laszlo Rabel, another member of the 74th Infantry Detachment, and the only LRP to ever receive the Medal of Honor. Born in Budapest, Hungary, in 1937, he later moved to the U.S. and joined the Army. On November 13, 1968, while leading Team Delta in Binh Dinh Province, Vietnam, Rabel’s unit encountered enemy forces. When a grenade landed in their midst, Rabel immediately threw himself on it, absorbing the blast and saving his team. His bravery earned him the Medal of Honor, awarded posthumously.
