TMBN Posted September 8, 2012 Share #1 Posted September 8, 2012 Not often to find patches as these at the local junk/secondhand/military shop here in Norway. Went up there yesterday and got these of a acu uniform that was to be sold to airsoft player. Very happy about them

TMBN Posted September 12, 2012 Author Share #4 Posted September 12, 2012 They sure do look theater made, but have no luck pin pointing the area. Only found a reference to the 145th as Medical Detachment, that was all. The Support Platoon of the 1st Bn 509th, i only found out that they had A and B Co in Iraq 2004/5. So if anyone else here has more information on these two, it would be very appreciated. Ole

Ole The 509 patch dates back from the 70's when they had 1st & 2nd Bn assigned to the 8th ID's Abn Bde in and around Mainz, Germany. For a short time these units were designated Airborne/Mechanized. I own one of these patches myself and it is also listed in Baudoin Ourari's book that was published early 80's. This is an extremely rare patch that was made for a Pltoon-sized unit!
