VMI88 Posted September 20, 2007 Share #1 Posted September 20, 2007 I picked up this camouflage beret in an out-of-the-way antique store today. It doesn't look US-made, but it also doesn't look like Vietnam-made berets I've seen. The people in the store didn't have any idea where it had come from. Does anyone recognize the construction? VMI88 Posted September 20, 2007 Author Share #2 Posted September 20, 2007 The lining is a pinkish synthetic material with a plastic holder that may have at one time contained a label. The gold tassel was threaded through a couple of ventilation eyelets on the side.
VMI88 Posted September 20, 2007 Author Share #3 Posted September 20, 2007 Here's a close-up of the sweatband. This is the most unusual part to me: it's a thick synthetic material with an unusual stitch pattern:
Polygon Posted September 21, 2007 Share #4 Posted September 21, 2007 Difficult to say, the pattern reminds me of an Asian imitation of woodland camouflage.
Nkomo Posted September 21, 2007 Share #5 Posted September 21, 2007 I am thinking maybe South Korean.
doyler Posted September 21, 2007 Share #6 Posted September 21, 2007 Sweat band very similiar to Viet Nam produced berets. Is there a stiffener in the front for rank/unit badge?I know the VN made berets tended to be a little taller on one side as the insignia was worn to the side(cocks comb) as oposed to the US on the front and over left eye.Could be Thai or Phillipino.Just a guess.Would like to hear Bobs opinion from Vintage Productions RON
