B52 Posted November 8, 2010 Share #1 Posted November 8, 2010 Hi all, I find this Browning Automatic Rifle Belt, 4-1918, 5-1918 & 7-1918 dated. It seems that it has been modified (with a colt .45 pouch and a US stamp on it) Is it credible if I use it on a WWII USMC display ? Best regards, B52
doyler Posted November 8, 2010 Share #2 Posted November 8, 2010 There was a belt issued like this one for the assitant BAR gunner in WW! if I recall correctly. The US marking looks suspect?added in my opinion. The font isnt correct and the WW1 pouches were notmarked.
subsystem4 Posted November 8, 2010 Share #3 Posted November 8, 2010 Looks like a WWI BAR gunners belt that they took the cup off and put an extra mag pocket on. I have seen that before. Didn't the assistant gunners belt have 4 BAR mag pockets and 4 rifle clip pockets? The stencil is def not original to this belt. It looks like one i have seen on 1950's m45 suspenders. def not WWI or WWII

LtRGFRANK Posted November 9, 2010 Share #5 Posted November 9, 2010 There were lots of modifications of BAR Belts. Hard to tell by the pictures. I would have to have it in hand to tell. Robert
combat-helmets Posted November 10, 2010 Share #6 Posted November 10, 2010 Although the marines used army equipment, their ammo belts tended not to be marked "US". Those were army issue. Coming across a BAR belt marked "USMC" is so uncommon, I have not seen one...
