316th FS 324th FG Posted July 26, 2009 Share #1 Posted July 26, 2009 What do you think? The back looks like it has a coating on it that filled in the sterling letters. Thoughts?

pfrost Posted July 27, 2009 Share #4 Posted July 27, 2009 Howdy, I think they are perfectly legit WWII wings. Nothing wrong with them, IMHO. Nice Patrick
Paul S Posted July 27, 2009 Share #5 Posted July 27, 2009 My father accumulated 4 full-size navigator wings during his tours, 1943-45...3 of them were just like this one. One experienced collector suggested that they were made by Blackinton, but I have seen no proof of that attribution.
militarymodels Posted July 27, 2009 Share #6 Posted July 27, 2009 The thick coating on the back looks like it was poorly applied by the owner or collector, I've never seen any wings with the original manufacture coating like that but the wings itself are WW2 original. Lonny
316th FS 324th FG Posted July 27, 2009 Author Share #7 Posted July 27, 2009 Thanks all, I just realized that the sterling markis raised, but very hard to see. I was fortunate to pick them up for $10, which is why I was willing to take risk even though the back looked weird. They also had a command balloon pilot wing for $10, but both the owner and I think it is fake.
