M49a1 trip flare, will have the date stamped on it, but VN to current usage.

I have a few, dated 1969. Yours should have ink markings unless repainted. Keep in mind these hit the surplus markets years ago, and are live, No biggie, but they burn hot, bright, and loud. The fuze is instantaneous, no delay feature, don’t let the spoon fly unless you are prepared for the effect.

Also just FYI, it does not have the safety pull pin in it, very dangerous not having it in place. As 917601 said, it burns hot, at like 5000+ degrees.

There is absolutely NO delay in this item. I have seen someone try to hand throw it at night and it goes off as soon as you let go of it..

Just picked up the pictured M49A1 at the swapper. Looks like this one is good to go, too. I can still barely see the markings on the outer housing, which looks like "FLARE SURFACE TRIP M49A1" "LOW88G012-014".
