AirMechanic Posted December 19, 2020 Share #1 Posted December 19, 2020 I found these at a veteran’s estate sale. They are mounted on a thin board that looks and feels like crude pressed recycled paper fibers. Does anyone know if these are authentic patches, or were they made to sell as souvenirs? Does the ink marking on the back mean anything? Any help is appreciated!
ScottG Posted December 19, 2020 Share #2 Posted December 19, 2020 The short answer is yes they are authentic. Many items were being made in a sort of cottage industry way due to sanctions. That said, after the ground operations of OIF 1 in 2003, AAFES rolled in and sold these mounted to the boards you describe. They also sold flags and rank insignia, so they are not a battlefield pick up. As I mentioned, they are also very late, likely made in 2000-2003 so not as desirable as the earlier higher quality versions. Hope this helps, Scott.
