My first active duty post was at USCG Group/Air Station Corpus Christi, Texas. Our hangar is located on the Naval Air Station there. I arrived here in November of 1998 and transferred to the ATON Depot in early 2000. All of the enlisted folks were issued flight jackets and so did I. Unfortunately, mine went “missing” at some point after I transferred out. I guess someone else liked it better. I was able to make several flights in our HH-65’s and HU-25’s during my time there but I was destined to be a Boatswain’s Mate!! One of my friends from the ASM shop gave me an older flight suit to use and on my first helo flight, applied black shoe polish to the ear cups of my helmet. It was a blast!

Here are my flight suit and a flight jacket of the same type as my lost one.

I dig the HU-25.  My father flew civilian corporate Falcons for many years, one of the finest jets out there.  He always enjoyed seeing the HU-25s around and was bummed when they finally retired them.  Even from a early 60s design, those Falcon 20s still look damn fine today.   Used to see the 25s that were based up at ASCC when I still lived up in New England.  My father and I visited the Dassault store at their location in NJ one time and I picked up a Dassault/Falcon HU-25 patch.

One of our falcons was used in the making of the movie Perfect Storm. CG-2111 was flown out with a crew who were on screen for a few seconds. 2111 played itself (more as a CG model than anything) in the movie as it was actually there for real “perfect storm”.
