GeneralCheese Posted December 17, 2017 Share #1 Posted December 17, 2017 Another recent find. Very salty shell with even saltier Hood Rubber liner. Insignia looks original to me.

KurtA Posted December 18, 2017 Share #10 Posted December 18, 2017 The Line Officer Star pointing up is strange. Question is, assuming some lowly seaman painted it that way, would the captain insist on it being corrected or just wear go ahead and wear it? Burning Hazard Posted December 18, 2017 Share #11 Posted December 18, 2017 Nice salty set, it's rare to find a heavily used Hood Rubber liner like that, most I've seen tend to be unissued or in very good condition.
GITom1944 Posted December 18, 2017 Share #12 Posted December 18, 2017 Here's a thread with a painted helmet and a period reference photo of naval officers with upwards painting stars. So, it happened some of the time. http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/68294-fixed-bail-usn-captains-helmet-w-markings/?hl=%2Bcapt+%2Band+%2Bthe+%2Buss+%2Bnevada&do=findComment&comment=496075 Tom

sigsaye Posted December 20, 2017 Share #15 Posted December 20, 2017 You focus too much on a detail. If you lined up 100 Navy people and asked them which way the star pointed, they would look at you with blank stares. 60 would probably ask, "What Star?"
