Misfit 45 Posted April 11, 2015 Share #1 Posted April 11, 2015 Hi Folks, I just got a 1906 dated Springfield Armory 1905 bayonet with a serial number of 1702. I know there are some three digit numbers out there. Several years ago on this forum, somebody showed their # 710 1905. I saw one on ebay several years ago that was in the high 900 range, but I think it was a cut down. If you have a low serial number SHOW IT OFF! We would love to see it. Misfit 45 Posted July 19, 2023 Author Share #2 Posted July 19, 2023 Hi Folks, Since it seems like a trend to resurrect old threads, and especially since no one responded to this one, I'll respond to my own thread! After a couple of decades or more, I have been trying to find a three digit Model of 1905 bayonet. I finally found one. It had nasty grips, so I substituted an appropriately seasoned pair from another 1905. Then I paired it with a Type I 1905 scabbard. They needed to be together! The bayonet has seen better days, but was not abused. Marv

LOL hyrax222 The pre-serial numbered 1905s were only on Rock Island 1905s. Springfield started with #1 , although there is a 0000 serial number 1905 in a museum somewhere. Serial numbered Rock Island 1905s are quite rare. Marv

Maxrobot Posted July 25, 2023 Share #9 Posted July 25, 2023 My oldest M 1905 bayonet is a Springfield made one numbered 149392. The blade is dark from bluing or Parkerizing.
Maxrobot Posted July 25, 2023 Share #10 Posted July 25, 2023 I also have two 1906 dated Rock Island M 1905 bayonets. Both had been Parkerized in the early 1940s. In the book, "From Here To Eternity" the author tells of them turning in their bright blades for "black" ones in the few months before Pearl Harbor. If anyone is interested, contact me.
