copdoc Posted November 22, 2012 Share #1 Posted November 22, 2012 Obligatory US firearm posted so that I can say Happy Thanksgiving to you guys. US 24 pounder replica. Made from a piece of 9" bar stock. Yes it was really heavy before boring. Dad gave me this a few years before he passed away. Thought you guys might like it also. copdoc Posted November 24, 2012 Author Share #3 Posted November 24, 2012 yes but very heavy. Just noticed your location. There is a group that shoots Coehorns in your hood. Mostly 12 pounders. I have a block of steel for a 12 pounder but have not had time to build it. Not many 12 pounders actually used in US CW but a lot easier to move them. I have a cast iron 12 pounder with reduce bore/steel sleeve but I do not want to shoot it with solid projectiles. The 24 pounders are solid steel from bar stock. here is an original Union 24 pounder at Ft Jefferson in the Dry Tortugas The Confederate is even heavier than the Union. The little 12 pounder with reduced bore is not easy to handle by yourself either.
