I found a company selling Admiral shoulder boards for dirt cheap from a online surplus store called Colonel Bubbies. I picked up all admiral ranks including Fleet Admiral for just 157.00 and that included shipping. Some of their stock was made from Vanguard and there was another brand that is even better but everything goes for the same price. The fleet admirals were only $35! I just got them all today and they look really good. Usually these things go for 40 bucks or more on ebay minumum, Rear Admiral lower half was only $20. Rear Admiral was $25, Vice Admiral and Admiral were $30.

Col Buddies was a great place to visit and a very good friend of mine over the years. His place was packed from floor to ceiling with surplus stuff. Galveston was just a bad location for him due to the tropical storms that would sometimes devastate that region. Aha Hurrican "IKE".

Glad you liked his items.

Indeed I got tired of being outbid on those on ebay, and those prices are cut rate and excellent quality. $150 is what I might see on ebay for a fleet admiral set but I got all for $150, also thanks to thefind.com or else I would have never pulled colonel bubbies up on line.

I'll be going to Houston next weekend. I'll be going to a concert on Friday and stopping by the Colonel's on Saturday. When I was younger, one of the few memories I have that involves my father is him telling me he was going to take me there. He never did. When I first joined the forum, I mentioned Col. Bubbies, under the wrong name. I thought they had closed their doors, but a forum member informed me of the correct name and told me it was still open. Next week, if all goes well, I will have realized something I've been thinking of doing for a very long time.

I'm sure everything will live up to what I'm expecting. I'm looking forward to it.

If you have the chance see if they have any ranks or rates, especially vintage. Right now I am still seeking out some CMAF ABUs. I got the dress blue and white now I want the ABUs.

I'll check for you, that's not a problem. I'll also end up taking some pictures, and if you see anything there, you can email them, and I'm sure they'll send it off to you. But I'll keep my eyes open for vintage rates.

Did anyone notice that in the description on the colbubbie.com website that he clearly stated that they were "excellent reproductions of authentic usn shoulder boards"? So what exactly did you get? Whats on the underside? Any manufacturing marks on them? You can't always tell by looking at the picture, but I do have to admit the pictures do look pretty good.

Yea I saw they were repros, but I collect some current stuff too. I think it would be next to impossible to get an authentic fleet admiral boards, or they would go for like $1,000. I have collected all officer pins, I ordered some from vanguard. There is no writing or symbols on the boards but they look nice, that was all I cared about. They are a nice addition to my collection, The lady on the phone said some of what they have is vanguard, the rest were some better brand she did not specify. Let me get some pics up of what I got.
