Coffeecup Posted February 18, 2010 #1 Posted February 18, 2010 The title tells it all. I'm trying to determine if a Cattaraugus 225Q or Case 337-6"Q will fit in the Navy Mk 2 scabbard. Does anyone have both so they can check? A neighbor's father served in the Marines during the Korean war, and has had some questions about the knife he carried. He's pretty sure it was a 225Q; the Cattaraugus name and the thick pommel stuck in his mind. But he's equally sure he carried it in a hard plastic scabbard. The only possibility I could think of was the Navy's Mk 2 scabbard, but I don't have one and can't check for fit.
SKIPH Posted February 18, 2010 #2 Posted February 18, 2010 coffeecup- The 225Q fits in a MK2 scabbard. But, it will destroy the finish on the blade. By coincidence a local militaria dealer has one in that configuration. I would not recommend. Case 336Q, I have no clue. SKIP
Coffeecup Posted February 18, 2010 Author #3 Posted February 18, 2010 Skip, thanks for the quick reply! We were just looking at possibilities, I'll pass the information along. I doubt blade finish was one of his concerns at the time (though it would sure matter to me now!).
bayonetman Posted February 18, 2010 #4 Posted February 18, 2010 The answer to both is Yes, they will both fit the USN Mark 2 scabbard (as well as the leather scabbard). The fit is tight as the blades are a little thicker than the Mark 2 knife, but they indeed will go in snugly.
Coffeecup Posted February 19, 2010 Author #5 Posted February 19, 2010 Thanks again guys! I had to scramble a bit to put it together, but when he got on the plane tonight a Mk2 scabbard holding a Catt 225Q was tucked in his luggage. Jim
