MikeS Posted November 18, 2009 #1 Posted November 18, 2009 Hello Folks - Among my many other interests, I occasionally build models from scratch, but I really enjoy finding and if necessary, restoring vintage wooden ship models of all types, but especially wooden naval ships. I hope this is something that is within the realm of the forum. Here is one of my current projects. I picked this up many years ago in a small local antique shop. It was from a WW2 Vet's Estate. I'm finally getting around to restoring it as it had a few 'condition' problems. Missing the deck gun and the conning tower had some broken parts that I have replaced and am in the process of putting the finish on. Since the photo I've added the communications(?) rigging but it still needs the deck gun. To me it appears to be a silhouette of an Imperial Japanese Naval submarine, perhaps one of the KD(?) Types with the raised section in front of the conning tower. It is 16"s long and mounted on the wooden base. This makes it an ~1:250 scale. I wondered if anyone had seen anything similar, or if there are other thoughts on what else it may be. I've had one suggestion that it may be a recognition model as it is all black and a waterline model. Thanks for looking! - Best regards, Mike S.
