As a medal collector, I'm always on the lookout for new useful books on the topic. So far, aside from Albert Gleim's stuff and Col Strandberg's Call of Duty, there isn't a whole lot out there that isn't really just your basic work to familiarize the unfamiliar. I was hoping someone could tell me if this book would be worth purchasing for someone who has a more than just a basic understanding of the subject. I'm looking for something just a bit more advanced.

Thanks,

G

Well, I just happened to find a copy of this book on the shelf at the local B&N. The book is good material for someone who is a beginner, or needs specific dates/Executive Order # for medal authorization and the likes. There are a fair number of some incredibly beautifully engraved medals from the MOH on down. While many of the 30 or so color pics speak for themselves, there is no real additional info, other than a caption that names the medal pictured.

I love the pictures, but think I'll save that $ to go toward a medal for my own collection.

For novice medal collectors, I strongly urge you to purchase any of Fred Borch's other works, like The Silver Star, The Bronze Star, and even the Air Force Cross. Each are exceptional in scope and detail. (there may be others, but can't recall off the top of my head). These give much greater detail and information that the other must-have book, Call of Duty.

Thanks,

G
