Hello everyone,

I just recently bought this amcraft snowflake pattern wing, can anyone provide any opinion to its authenticity?

From what I can see it looks good, crappy Amcraft catch and all ;) . Do you see sheer marks on the edges as would be indicitive of die striking (like on your Luxenberg)?

I don't see anything wrong with it. What about the edges of the wings? You can usually detect the shear marks easily aoround the top and bottom of the shield edges. BTW, I meant to type "shear" marks...not sheer. :ermm:

These look real to me.

Very sharp details to snowflakes and mfgr's mark are the things you want to see.

These wings have it.

Watch out for weak snowflake designs that are shallow, ragged, or indistinct.

Those wings are almost never maker marked and are usually stamped "STERLING."

You'll see them commonly offered on eBay, particularly in the angular 1930s pattern.

Congratulations on adding a fine pair of Amcraft snowflake wings to your growing collection.

Thank you for the reply. The wing is on its way to me in the mail, I will post better pictures as soon as I get them. Do you happen to have a simillar wing to compare?

Perfectly 100% wing.

Some interesting facts:

A lot of these came out of Hawaii and California about 10-15 years ago. I recall an ASMIC meeting in Long Beach the weekend before one of the last Great Western Gun shows, one of the dealers from Hawaii (IIRC) had found some old stock in one of the Honolulu uniform supply stores. He had a shoe box full of these in near mint condition that he was selling for $9.99 each! At the time, the first Pinks and Greens book had come out and I had been studying it for months. I immediately recognized that the wings were just like the ones in the book, but I figure that the wings being sold for $9.99 MUST be fake (the old "to good to be true") story, so I decided to pass (like a dolt!). As I was getting ready to leave, I saw one of my dealer friends with a handful of these wings, so I asked him what he thought. He said "Patrick, I would buy EVERY one of them if I had the money, the guy is giving them away!". Quickly getting smart, I went back and bought the last 8 that he had on his table. I sold all but 1 of them for $35 each a few weeks later. I was so happy with myself, I was a regular Donald Trump of wings. For about another year, you could find these wings for about $10 to $40 at all the local gun shows (and I bought as many as I could), ASMIC shows or Great Western Show, then they started showing up on eBay and they seemed to be selling for about $75. Since then, I don't see them that frequently anymore and the prices seem to have gone up over $100 now.

I used to see a guy out of Florida selling what I believe was old stock of Josten Senior pilot wings (many in the original paper wrapper). For years, you could buy them off of eBay for $125 like clock work. They also seemed to have dried up as well.

Hello

I attached better pics of the amcraft wing, just received the wings today. Also, I got this as a lot with 3 items total. I am not sure if the second wing is authentic or not?
