Red, Green and Yellow/Orange flags the container has CS-90 stamped on it and each flag pole has stamped MC-270 on it. The WW2 Vet I bought it from said it had something to do with Tanks, but was not sure if or how they were used. He was Artillery at the battle of the bulge and did not remember how he ended up with it. I first posted this under the MISC. Forum and have learned they are what he said but how were they used?

Spec. IH-MIL-F-40045, Signal M-238. Tells me how it is put together but not how the flags are use and what each flag means.

US armor units were still using these range safety flags (on tanks) when I ETSed in 1976. There was a bracket installed on the top of the turret, to hold the flags. A red flag (displayed) indicated weapons loaded and ready to fire. Green meant weapons cleared and vehicle safe. I can't remember the yellow, but seems I remember it was displayed with the red flag, indicating not clear due to a malfunction.
