teufelhunde.ret Posted June 17, 2011 #1 Posted June 17, 2011 The photo as you see is labeled a Marine HS-2 in the Azores circa 1918, also note this is a re-print from 1969. I think the info may not be correct, as the Marine Aeronautic Company only rec'd the HS-1's after they had been on station for months. And do not recall if they ever saw the HS-2 during their tour. Also, cannot tell if that is a Marine or Naval Aviator at the bottom of the photo... thoughts?
Alec Posted June 17, 2011 #2 Posted June 17, 2011 Looks like a Marine O's cap. Maybe the date is wrong.
teufelhunde.ret Posted June 17, 2011 Author #3 Posted June 17, 2011 Hopefully someone will come along who knows the difference in the two planes... Just not enough detail in pic - nonetheless I'm inclined to think a Naval Aviator by the apparent size of the Cap Badge...?
Alec Posted June 17, 2011 #4 Posted June 17, 2011 Did you read about the Curtiss Marine Flying Trophy of 1919 that was flown during 1918? Included HS1 and HS 2s it semms some flown by Marines.
