Dear All,

Trying to learn more about ERDL, and running into some question marks.  I have several pairs of pants that show, what looks to me like, a mix of cammo patterns.  Here is pair #1 that seems to mix together GD and BD in a very random way.  Was this common or is there anything else about the pattern of the pants and contract/ date (1978) that would explain this arbitrariness?  Also, some edges are blurry, some are not.  Is it correct to assume that the blurry ones are earlier?

Thank You!

Best,

Al

Your pants are between ERDL and Woodland cammies, so called RDF (for Rapid deployment forces).
The quality and the cut was predetermined by the contract but the colors?
Watauga Corp. used the fabric they had.. both colors. Some collectors called pants and coats like yours "clown pattern".
All of my GD Erdl's have blurry edges, my BD not. I have not seen BD cammies with blurry edges so far.
But maybe kammo-man have some? ☺
And i think nobody who wore them on duty said "look at me, that does not look stylish at all"

Regards
Lars

Thank You!

Ok, so just a pair of RDF cammo pants.  I just find it interesting, and odd, that the Army, an organization that has immensely contributed to industrial standardization, was fine with not only a wide variety of shades in one individual color, but also in mixing the colors altogether.  I would have expected that by 1978 it was more clear cut.  Once the BDUs came out, it seems they were more uniform in color.  Well, will the hot weather ones came out, that material produced some unique shades too.

Thanks again!

Just the govt using up lots of outdated cloth before a new uniform was issued.
