Persian Gulf Command Posted January 10, 2019 #1 Posted January 10, 2019 The Mk2 Grenade with the bottom fill hole can be found in Gray, Gray w/ Yellow overpaint, Yellow, Yellow w/ OD overpaint, Red, Red w/ Yellow overpaint, and Blue. Does anyone have an original painted example, which was painted OD green only?
Arrow Posted January 11, 2019 #2 Posted January 11, 2019 Here is one, marked BB with replaced spoon, most of the finish is worn off but od paint is still clearly visible. Regards Kevin
kanemono Posted January 11, 2019 #3 Posted January 11, 2019 My knowledge of grenades is very limited. Here is what I believe is a Mk2 grenade that is painted OD green. The base plug is a lead screw. the fuse will not unscrew so a hole was drilled in the lead plug to show it is not loaded.
Garandomatic Posted January 11, 2019 #4 Posted January 11, 2019 Whoa... BB... Burnham Boiler from my hometown! My example has a solid bottom.
Persian Gulf Command Posted January 11, 2019 Author #5 Posted January 11, 2019 OK, thanks for the confirmation! That's one more type I need to seek out for my collection.
Persian Gulf Command Posted January 11, 2019 Author #6 Posted January 11, 2019 Arrow, I believe your example may be original gray paint. Or is it an actual OD Green?

You have pictured a very rare ( in the collector world) " cut back fuse " with the correct short spoon.Notice the fuze body, see where the fuze body is angled up towards the spoon. Nice early grenade.
Arrow Posted January 11, 2019 #8 Posted January 11, 2019 Arrow, I believe your example may be original gray paint. Or is it an actual OD Green? PGC, Held it up next to a OD green knife scabbard, looks the same to me, just a bit more shine on the grenade. Hard to say if oxidation has played a part, but looks OD green in hand. It would be nice to see a few more examples.
