stealthytyler Posted December 19, 2016 Share #1 Posted December 19, 2016 I sold this helmet and mess kit on ebay about 4-5 years ago do to certain circumstances. I recently have been thinking about it and wonder if anyone on this forum bought it from me? The helmet also has a medical insignia on the back as well as the other markings. It might be a long shot but I would love to reconnect with this helmet and mess kit. Please PM if you are the owner. Thanks!
USMC-RECON0321 Posted December 19, 2016 Share #2 Posted December 19, 2016 I would call that more of a Cross of Lorraine. Maybe of the 79th Division. Did you ever ID your guy to a unit?
stealthytyler Posted December 19, 2016 Author Share #3 Posted December 19, 2016 The medical insignia is on the back of the helmet which is not pictured here.
P-40Warhawk Posted December 19, 2016 Share #4 Posted December 19, 2016 Mess kit looks like it was once this soldier's: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=gummow&GSfn=clyde&GSbyrel=all&GSdyrel=all&GSob=n&GRid=49212832&df=all& The '2' on the helmet looks like 2nd Army. That is correct. Im not trying to find info on the helmet or soldier. I am trying to find out if someone on this forum owns this helmet. I sold it 4-5 years ago. Thanks! P-40Warhawk Posted December 19, 2016 Share #6 Posted December 19, 2016 Ok, good luck. Looks like it's an interesting research project for the owner, if the mess kit goes with the helmet. I guess you're thinking the helmet could be a marking for the 159th Field Hospital (organized from Utah/Nevada units in WWI)? That's cool.
