Gregory Posted March 6, 2008 Share #1 Posted March 6, 2008 Hello, Below I posted the US armored infantryman of the 12th AD in WWII. As we can see he has interesting big machete. In my opinion the handle looks similarly to 22in Collins machete but its sheath not necessarily. What is this - military-issued machete or something from civvie street? Any assistance is greatly appreciated. Best regards Greg
gunbarrel Posted March 7, 2008 Share #2 Posted March 7, 2008 That's a Collins Model No. 3 plastic handle. IMHO, I'd say it's a U.S. Army Machete Model M-1939, aka Collins No. 128. The M-1942 machetes had a Collins No. 6 handle.

tankerman Posted March 8, 2008 Share #4 Posted March 8, 2008 Hello...Also of note are the wire cutters and the bayonet on his left side. This GI was loaded for bear. I agree with GB on the machete. Interesting photo and thanks for sharing. tankerman

Interesting photo and thanks for sharing. In the first moment I thought the same about hunting for bear or other elephant But when I thought a little longer I had to say that the German counterparts, the Panzergrenadiers, many times were not loaded lighter.
