disneydave Posted December 31, 2011 #7 Posted December 31, 2011 Many of the pieces picture don the Air Force site were included in the special exhibit they did there a couple of years ago. Two of the folks with the big Hank Porter insignia collections on the comicartfans.com site are friends of mine...Dennis Books and Tom Horvitz. When the Porter estate came up for sale, around 550 Disney insignia pencil drawings in all, Dennis, Tom, myself, and two other friends managed to buy the bulk of the drawings. Quite a few of the posts in the Walt Disney sub forum on this site feature Porter drawings I acquired when Porter's estate was liquidated. My friend Dennis offered a 6-figure sum for the whole collection but was turned down. In the end, his offer wasn't far off the mark for what the collection ended-up being sold for piecemeal. I casually approached the director of the Boeing Museum a couple of years ago to see about mounting a special Disney insignia exhibit. He seemed intrigued by my idea. Maybe I'll fire off a more detailed proposal this coming year.
Johnny Signor Posted January 1, 2012 Author #8 Posted January 1, 2012 Hey DD, glad to see that the collection of Hank Porters emblems/art didn't get piecmealed out too much and that it went to people that appreciate it for what it is "History" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Jack's Son Posted January 13, 2012 #11 Posted January 13, 2012 It is a great site, and a lot of fun to dream about having a collection of them. Out off my reach!! :pinch:
disneydave Posted January 15, 2012 #12 Posted January 15, 2012 Not necessarily. Finished art runs from $750-$2,500 depending on the condition, the unit, and the Disney character used. The original pencil sketches, around 550 of them, were sold on eBay over the course of two years, a couple of years ago. They sold for as low as $50 to a high of around $1,000. I managed to purchase quite a few of them. The pencil drawings are nice...some have colored pencil, and some were painted too. The drawings, for the most part, are exact representations of the final design.
