January 28, 20251 yr #1 Hello, curious on your thoughts on this. I found a nice silver star grouping online. But there were two silver star and he was only awarded one. One looked new and the other was in very rough condition. So I assumed the other was a replacement medal. But I’m not so sure now when looking at the engraving. Also just want to double check the other medals. Seems to me to be a mixed bunch.
January 28, 20251 yr Author #3 I thought the same thing, but when I asked the seller she said there were no numbers.
January 28, 20251 yr Solution #4 It looks like it's a full replacement set of medals from the 1980s. The older Silver Star is most likely his original. @decwriter I would have also asked about the numbers on the leg of the replacement Silver Star. Looks like they are there. Maybe a production defect or something?
March 9, 20251 yr #5 Numbered Silver Stars still turned up as late as the Gulf War. I know of one such award that was issued to Captain Ken Pope of the 1st Infantry Division, 1/4 Cavalry.
