Fenders are not original but with some tweaks can be used till I get some originals, and I have some usable (non-original) wheels. This project is put on hold for working on the jeep though.

Hunt (as Jeff Floyd stated). He was classified as a Mandarin Second Class due to his civilian service in the US Army Quartermaster Department during the China Relief Expedition. -

yellowhammer history replied to History Perfect's topic in LATEST FINDSI don't really understand that logic... even if they are in poor condition (which they seem OK to me) they still would be worth saving in my opinion, and why would asbestos make them not worth preserving? If that's really a concern there's probably ways to seal the filters. -
Brian Dentino replied to Dirk's topic in (1920-1940) THE INTERWAR YEARS, BANANA WARS, HAWAIIAN DIVISION, CHINA SERVICE to 1940Dirk, would make sense there are fewer USMC than USN since I would guess there were far less Marines during this time to "shop" while on duty stations in China. Either way, these Chinese made items (flags, silver items, smalls, etc.) are just done with such care and detail that it sets them apart IMHO. I love the 3-D look to the eagles feathers on these works. Must have taken the craftsmen some time to hand embroider something like this, which makes them all the more beautiful in my eyes! Great piece, among many in your collection Dirk. -

dmar836 replied to History Perfect's topic in LATEST FINDSUnless you are wearing the masks around, the asbestos isn't likely to become shredded, airborn, and inhaled. Like lead paint, if kept as a collectible object, the scary substances won't jump out and hurt you. I have even used an intact asbestos blanket to protect parts of an airplane from damage when welding. I also have some lead hammers and sheets sheets for padding items in the shop setting. Many things can be harmful in some states(not location) and yet be perfectly stable, even able to be handled. Don't eat it, grind it up and snort it, etc and you can preserve it just fine.

KurtA posted a topic in TOYS & GAMESFound this at the flea market yesterday. About the same size as a "normal" chevron. Has an elastic band on the reverse, so a kid can wear it on the arm. Based on its construction, it correctly dates from the late 1950's - when the Phil Silvers Show ran. One of my favorites shows I've never seen one before.
