I'm having some trouble with the focus on my camera but here's one of the few Korean War uniforms in my collection. This one belonged to a Captain in the 2nd Infantry Division. He had been enlisted during WW-II but was commissioned at the end of the war. Only two will fit so will post the other two in a subsequent post.

 

 

 

Here are the final two pictures of this uniform.

 

The CIB is sterling and the ribbon bars are clutch-back type. This one has been in the back of the closet for years. I just dug it out when this thread popped up the other day and threw it on. It's nothing great, just an average KW uniform. No ID on it that I've found yet. By the way, and I forgot to mention this in the earlier post, I don't know where the DIs came from but they're definitely newer than the tunic and certainly not Korean War vintage.

a bit late in participating in this post, but I'd like to share this 24th Division Ike with you. Opinions are welcome as to where the patches were locally-made (SSI, ribbon bars, unit citations, and maybe even the odd-looking chevrons?), I suspect Japan?

Glad you like it, it came to me without collar brass so I randomly added an armor/cav disk (could be almost anything else though, apart from Infantry of course)

any ideas about where these patches were made?

Hmmm -- Asia I suspect. That would mean Korea or Japan -- I suspect the latter.

Here are my KW uniforms -mostly shirts. This first is an EM Ike from 8245 AU. For some reason, he had his GHQ patch removed from his right sleeve and sewn to his left.

Here is an EM Ike with a 7th ID patch and KOREA tab on the left shoulder, and the 40th ID with "Ball of Fire" scroll on the right. The orders were that the 40th ID insignia could not be worn outside of Korea, especially on Class As. Lucky for me, this GI didn't get the orders.

Here is an officer's shirt for 8245 AU, w/ the GHQ patch.

Finally, an EM shirt for the 8233 AU, HG Co, Far East Cmd. BTW - this was a multi-branch unit, and all personnel, including USMC, wore the HG scroll (but not the Far East Cmd patch).

I don't normally go after Korean War uniforms unless it belonged to an officer, however this one was just too neat to pass up! It has ver nice silver domed collar brass for AG, nice ribbon set, awesome KCOMZ Bullion patch, and a vintage Catholic Rosary in the pocket.

This one appeared on eBAy last week and I decided I needed it. I am pretty pleased with the results now that it has arrived.

 

The jacket itself has a 1949 contact date and a 1948 specifiaction. I will bet it it much smaller than a similar sized M1944 because it was intended to be worn as a class A uniform and not in the field.

 

Other things attracted me too:

- The neat Xth Corps bullion patch. It is a bit tarnished, but that's real patina.

- The Combat Artillery Badge -- unauthorized, I know. On close examination it appears to be Japanese made. The badge and cannons are 2-piece with the cannons a hollow stamping. These are not sterling and appear to be chrome plated. I have seen very few such badges on uniforms, and I suspect it's been there a long time.

- The ribbons show definite fading -- I think there are original to it.

- The red shoulder cord was not authorized, but I believe it has been on this jacket for years.

 

The only puzzlement are the 2 overseas bars on the left cuff -- I have always understood that they belonged on the right by then, but some guys never get the word.

amazing piece, that Japanese-made Combat artilleryman badge is really neat!!

Here's mine. He served in WW 1 with the Navy on the USS Indiana, then in Europe in WW 2 with a Field Artillery unit, post war in the ONG, and finally with the 140th F A (ONG) till discharge do to age. He was 65 and they had to kick him out. He would have stayed in till death I think had there not been an age law. Got this right from his Brother-in-law. ***Note the WW 2 overseas stripes placement.
