July 26, 200916 yr #28 Yep, the scabbard throat has separated from the body. Another thought that occurs to me after looking at the closeups is that the suspension ring band may also be constricting the scabbard body as it is misplaced and this screw is also missing. I would try hitting the band with a rubber mallet, or a shoe heel, to knock it loose towards the bottom. The scabbard is incorrect and just about toast anyway so I don't think you can hurt it much.

July 31, 200916 yr #32 Good job! :thumbsup: Since this is a generic sword and not a regulation Medical Staff or Pay Department sword I think the brass scabbard would not be correct but would certainly fit. Most swords of this type, without MS or PD on the guard, I have seen have had black leather scabbards with brass fittings with a frog stud suspension.
February 1, 20242 yr #33 Beast and Sarge, Would it be possible to see photos of the disassembled hilt of your swords? Someone pointed out to me that most Medical Staff swords have a knob between the grip and crossguard that mine doesn't have. However, my hilt fits cleanly against my crossguard with only about 1/16" of play (and my leather washer is missing). I don't see how there could be a brass part missing from mine, but there's no denying the shape is different. I found one more like mine online but most seem to have the knob. Are the knobs on your two swords separate pieces, or are they cast integral to the hilt? Here's a photo of mine so you can see what I mean:
