I recently found another example of the initial issue M1852 held in private hands: https://www.pbs.org/video/appraisal-1852-commodore-morriss-naval-officer-sword-kyi8hq/ . It is from a descendant of Commodore Morris. No measurements are given but the expert does take notice of the “1852” on the obverse.
This is presumably:
Morris, Henry W.
Midshipman, 21 August, 1819. Lieutenant, 17 May, 1828. Commander, 12 October, 1849. Captain, 27 December, 1856. Commodore, 16 July, 1862. Died 14 August, 1863.
In 1852, he would have been a Commander.
