Wayne Kempton was a Cotton farmer from Arizona. In June of 1942 he joined the 3RD Marine division and served as a field telephone wireman. He fought at Bougainville and Gaum where he received a sharpnel

wound in the shoulder. He relisted in 1948 and served in Korea. Thanks to Tom Lane for showing the ebay listing.

Very nice group there.

Nice group - the Guam campaign and 3rd never got the recognition they should have. The Empress Augusta Bay Beachhead battle was one of the hardest fought in the Pacific.

Another great group Mark! Yes, I don't know why people don't pay more attention to the 3rd Division as Bougainville was a mess and Guam was no cake walk; then of course Iwo. Thanks for posting.

Thanks for the great comments. What I thought was interesting in the file was the fact that his hosiptal records were lost and tell how he was wounded.Nothing like see it first hand from the veteran himself. Mark
