I want to explain how I came about this item. I was at a huge auction and there must have been fifty rows of everything imaginable from blow up dolls, I'm serious, to tools used to caulk an old wooden boat to a kayak. But as hard as I looked I could find nothing military related. And just so you know, I have a medical condition. The doc said the medical term is Infitidus Packratness and if I don't find at least one military item when I go out I start mumbling to myself. You see I have to feed my Packratness, or you can just use the lay term pack rat. It does not matter what era the item is from. It can be green, khaki, blue, white, brown, camo or even from a foreign country as long as it was used, or even looks like it was used, by someone in a military somewhere. I will even settle for a fraternal piece if its good enough to fool me into thinking it is military related. So anyway enough about my illness and back to the item. So there I was between the rows of junk mumbling to myself as the concerned mothers moved their young children out of the way as I wondered by. And then, just as I was about to put my head in my hands and give up, I spotted it. It was about three rows over on the last row. My eyes widened as I said to myself,"Its bigger then a bread box and has that distinctive OD army green color." So with arms wide open I ran towards it and jumped the two remaining rows with the grace of an Olympic hurdler. I was so happy when I reached it that I am positive that I had the same expression on my face as when my ex-wife asked me for a divorce. But then I said to myself,"What the hell is it?" By looking at the container I first thought that it was an old army sewing machine but then I noticed the medical emblem on it. What the item is as stated on the instruction sheet, is a, Soresen Suction and Pressure Apparatus Surgical Explosion Proof Field Pump made by Bean Medic Hosp. Supply in Long Island City, NY. Now I know what you all are thinking your thinking that everyone needs one of these to fill that void in your collection, right? I am not sure how old the pump is but the address has a one number zip-code, or did they call that a postal code? I believe the item is from the Korean or early Vietnam War era and definitely a MASH item. Other then the fact that the box has missing paint etc. The pump itself is in mint unused condition. I would have taken a photo of the instruction sheet but it is taped to the side of inside of the box and looks like it was done at the factory so I am going to leave it there. In the end I have to say that sometimes I really need to sit back and laugh at myself with how goofy I can get when it comes to collecting, so LOL. Maybe some of you can relate to that and I would like to see what you consider your oddest items. Thanks

That's what it looks like but it more or less looks like what it says a surgical pump. The explosion proof makes sense when your dealing with oxygen and other flammable gases.

Esp when using ether, which is flammable, big time.

Just looking at some old threads and found this one. If you have not discovered the identity of the pump yet, it is a double bottle vacuum or suction set. Used to suck out obstructions in the airway, body fluids during surgery or apply vacuum for a chest tube. It would be part of the TO&E of a field hospital for sure. A nice item for any military medical collector
