Righteous and cool maybe, period NO. Sewing a copy Recon Team patch in the crown of a beret is the oldest scam around on supposed Viet era berets. this seller should know about scams as he has sold tons of questionable (I am being kind here) viet era collectibles. I am sure there is or are threads regarding this seller. His ebay seller name makes it sound like collecting is easy (eazy), well it is if you pay no attention to what he is selling or never try and learn if it is original. Ignorance is bliss. Excuse me if I am sounding harsh but at this stage in my collecting career I feel the need to call it as I see em and from what I have seen I say run dont walk away from these berets

A collector tip provided by Bob from Vintage Productions: most berets did not have a patch sewn into them. Rather they had the unit insignia directly embroidered into a liner. October 29, 201015 yr #11 I'm no expert on SOf/SOG berets but in my layman's mind I'm thinking, why would a Major or LTC be associated with a particular RT. I'm thinking these RTs would have been let by mid-senior NCOs or, perhaps, junior officers. A Maj would have been an XO and a LTC would have been a Bn Commander, neither affiliated with a particular RT. Just my thoughts....

I asked if anyone had any pics of a real one....I should have been more specific- any pics of a real beret with a real patch sewn in. All of those links you provided are cool....and I saw them when I used the "search"button...but they are nothing like the ones talked about in the beginning of the thread. well...I guess the panties beret comes close.......
October 29, 201015 yr #13 Hi all. I almost bought 4 fake berets at the SOS a couple of years ago but Jeff Ashenfelter looked at them and they were all fake Thanks Jeff! Like he told me " Why would a guy sew a patch inside his beret when he could have someone sew the whole liner with whatever he wanted for only a dollar or 2? I bought Jeffs book "Jaunty Tilt" and read it there and never looked at berets the same way again. A must have book. Sorry I dont have any with anything inside but i do have a nice incountry SF made one I'll post Hope this helps you out Best Mike
