I have been piling up unknown or strange insignia for a while now, and wanted to see if some of it can be ID'd here.

 

Working from left to right:

 

1) USCG Vice Admiral????

 

2)No idea what this shoulderboard it, or if its even US...

 

3)The top is a regular EOD badge, the bottom one has a star on it similar to airborne wings. Hoe does an EOD man earn a star?

 

4)Red Cross or Medic Patch?

 

5) I searched to no Avail on this ribbon...I have no idea!

 

6)Like a ribbon, but actually all metal. Marked NS Meyer on back....?????????

 

7)Looks like quartermaster branch insignia, but its missing the bottom part. It wasn't cut, it was made this way. It came on an ETO Major's uniform. Help!!!

 

 

Any input on these questions is greatly appreciated!!

The subdued EOD is the qualification badge for their EOD personel. The star indicates that the recipient is a "senior" much like the senior navigator, pilot, or parachutist.

The Senior EOD badge is awarded after 36 months of service in an EOD position following award of the Basic badge. There is also a Master badge that is awarded following 60 months of service after award of the Senior Badge in an officer or NCO EOD position.

 

The Quartermaster insignia looks as though the keys fell off of it. They are applied to the top of the insignia and this sometimes happens.

About the Vice Admiral patch. I don't think it is. CG Flag officers wear silver stars for the new ODU uniforms. Traditionally the CG uses silver stars for admirals as opposed to gold.

I found a chart of NATO rank http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ranks_and_ins...Armies_Officers and in many NATO countries the single star is for the equivalent of a 2nd Lt and the 3 stars for a Captain. I checked out the South American countries as well and many of those armies and air forces use a similar rank designation.

The 'metal' ribbon bar is just that, but likely used for Police, Fire, or Security. These are quite popular since they are practically indestructable. You might try looking at the Blackinton badge website, I think they still have a 'ribbons' section. That is my guess, anyway.
