July 31, 201015 yr #1 I need some help with an item I recently found. It appears to be a brass plate that would have been mounted to a shako type military hat. The reverse has wire mounting devices like those seen on other vintage plates. Note that there are 16 stars surrounding the eagle. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks..............Harry C
March 15, 201115 yr Author #5 I'd like to revive this to try again. I was reading that during the 1876 Centennial Expo at Philadelphia, one of the events was a reenactment featuring many different militia units selected from different states. The militia units made costumes to look like 1776 era uniforms and were in a parade at the expo. Do you think this shako plate could possibly be from one of those militia units? I think the plate is interesting and hate to give up on it. Does anyone have any information to share? Thanks again, Harry C
June 5, 20242 yr #7 This likely doesn't help, but this plate came up at auction last year.... Sold at Auction: WAR OF 1812 ARTILLERY MILITIA 7.6 SHAKO PLATE (invaluable.com) Heck, links not working...

June 5, 20242 yr #9 Not sure if that is a correct ID. I did several searches for 1812 and found nothing in a shako shield that looks like this one.
June 5, 20242 yr #10 I also am not convinced by the ID. I'll continue searching. It's bound to be out there somewhere on the www
