July 7, 201016 yr #1 Well it finally came in. Simple M1 fixed bail, I believe to be repainted after the war for some reunion or ceremony. The USS Swearer DE 186 had 9 battle stars for actions in the PTO. I have contact with one member of her crew. He did not remember this helmet while on board. This one seems to have had a good "strip" job as most of the cork has been removed before the silver and black were added. Pep
July 7, 201016 yr #3 May be like my "USS Thorn" painted pot. SOme of these old ships had ceremonies before they were destroyed in the late 60s and early 70s. They repainted the old helmets left on board and were taken home by the vets. They would leave them on their bunks! Cheers, Mike
