I purchased an M4 bayonet which has had the false edge modified. Normally, I would not have considered it but there is an M7 that is in William Humes' collection that was modified in a similar fashion. See pic below.

 

The M4 I have has been similarly modified. It appears to have been parkerized after the modification.

 

The M4 is a WWII leather handle by Imperial with all and only the correct markings, Standard Products pommel and narrow cross guard etc.

 

It came with what I would argue is a foreign made scabbard. It is unmarked, and in the picture below, notice that the "ears" hang down at a much lower angle than a US made M8A1 scabbard.

 

In the next picture, the tip of the scabbard looks good as an M8A1, but notice the circle in the center of the picture on the body of the scabbard. None of my M8A1 scabbards have this circle.

 

The webb portion looks like the short hanger web on an early M8 scabbard for the M3 trench knife, but it is slightly shorter. The rivets and snaps are painted a color similar to olive drab, but have a gloss finish instead.

 

The next picture shows the back of the metal portion and webbing of the scabbard to emphasize the detail of the crimping of the metal for strengthening puposes very similar to US scabbards.

 

Who makes this scabbard??? Was the bayonet modified by the same country from whence the scabbard comes??

Is the bayonet a field modification or did a little old man in his garage modify the bayonet to better stick pigs??

Misfit-45- The scabbard looks like the Italian versions of the M8 that are floating around, but I could be wrong. The bayonet looks professionally done. It does remind me of M7's that are on some of the sites. Cool! SKIP
