Hello All,

Came cross this patch and need a little help determining whether it good or not. It doesnt look like the patch king remakes. I do have a ww1 uniform that has the similar hook and pile type embroidery on it. There is some pretty old paper on the back, however it could just be an old fake. So, any advice you all could give would be much appreciated. Thank you, David

From what I have always understood, was that these were made in the 1960's. A few years ago a whole pile of these came to the surface in Southern California, some collectors wanted to believe they were real, but the advanced WWI collectors stayed away from them.

I've never liked them, nor seen them in any photos.

Collectors usually refer to these chenille type patches as "Stokes Kirk" and they were probably made during the 1930s for the American Legion, VFW, and 40/8 crowd. They may be old, but really would be categorized more as souvenirs or commemoratives than legitimate patches. They are certainly not WW1 era.
