All of the stock that came from the Harry Wosk stores are right as rain. Your Raider patches are no exception.

That being said, one of these days, some faker is going to start putting Wosk price tags on reproduction USMC insignia and there goes the neighborhood!

Thanks! I know they looked good but it never hurts to check. I am not an expert and still learning when it comes to patches.

 

I hate the fakers they kill the hobbie for everyone. I collect German Stuff for 15 yrs and there are more fakes out there than good stuff.

There is a photo above with a matchbook cover in the image. You can easily read all there is to know about the Harry Wosk store which was located in San Diego. I believe the store closed in the late 1940's? Wosk's daughters have been liquidating his inventory for many years now.

Wish I could see that storage area. It must be a USMC patch collectors dream. If they have such a large amount shouldn't that drop the prices? Then again they might just let a few out every now and then to keep the prices up.

I believe the pictures you have in your posts are from one of is daughters who is selling the remaining stock.Several years ago she was selling items at an ASMIC show in San Diego a friend attended.She had quite a huge amount of insignia and now I believe the stock is thinning out.I recall seeing at shows all types of USN/USMCwings,shooting badges,egas,belts tie clips,sweet heart items,patches etc attributed fron the old Wosk stock.

The quantity of great stuff they have has had an impact on prices, particularly the Cape Gloucester tab and small size USMC Raider on twill. They’re both selling well below what they used to. But, I’m fine with that. I was able to get nice patches for the collection at a much lower cost.

You'll get a better deal and not have to pay the Ebay mark up if you contact Donna Wosk and buy from her directly.

I bought a bunch of stuff from her several times and have never had a problem.

She is kind of specific though and will only take postal money orders as payment.

Some of her items are kind of pricey, but it's a great opportunity to get some nice, mint condition stuff with bulletproof provenance.

The location of the old Wosk store in San Diego is now the location of the Hall of Justice.

 

A while back someone did take the price tag from a Wosk raider patch and put it on something else to try to sell it, but the tags have in store numbers on them that correspond to the specific patches/items.

I would be very interested in obtaining an authentic Raider patch with solid provenance if the price is not too high for me to afford. How can one contact Donna Wosk to purchase directly from her?

I think she is currently selling the Casper variation of the Raider patch with the store tag for $77, the small skull version shown above for $87 and I think the mini-Mac Raider with tag plus 3 other minis (Aviation Engineers, Service & Supply and Headquarters) for $127 plus postage and insurance. When she starts running low on some of the items (the last few) the prices do go up.

 

I bought mine a while back and she always sent the packages out the same day she recieved my money orders, sometimes with a few little extras added.

 

If you drop an email she will send attachments with updated price lists.

If you call Donna she will tell the story of her Mom and Dad, I think if i remember they just got out of that bussness sorry i cant give you more info,sincerly Bob Bumbolow

Ron-From what I remember the Dad closed the store around 1947. I believe it was due to business slowing down and such, you can find advertisments in some of the old Leatherneck magazines if I remember right. When this stuff first starting trickling on the marker was in the mid 1990's. A couple of the San Diego collectors stumbled on the Wosk's having a "yard" type sale, and bought a huge load of stuff ( Cape Gloucester tabs the great Amico special wings, etc). Then in about 97 or 98 Donna started setting up at the show I promoted in San Diego. In the beginning they couldn't believe the prices this stuff sold for. At that time also you could buy whatever you wanted, not in groups. Gradually they realized what was selling fast and what wasn't selling, so they started making groups. This way the slow movers sold with the great stuff. No one care ever say Donna doesn't know how to sell. Then she came to the ASMIC convention in San Diego and business started booming for her. The rest they say, is history.

On a side note, I can remember in the 80's and early 90's you would find Harry Wosk related Birthday cards, Xmas Cards, matchbooks, etc. in the various antique shops around San Diego.
