I'm a relative newcomer to edged weapons, it's just not something I encounter very often collecting. I picked these two knives up today and I was hoping some folks here could tell me 1) what I've got, and 2) any value they may have. I collect Army stuff, not Navy, so any help would be greatly appreciated!

"Taiwan" mark on the hilt and initials "JVT"

Knife #1 is an earlier model MK2 Navy by Camillius.The later ones were guard marked.Yours is missing the pommel.

 

Knife #2 is a commercial copy with a WW2 fiber scabbard for the MK2 knife.

I've made three pleas for price quotes and no response - sometimes it's mighty hard to get responses on the forum. I'm not trying to get one over on anyone, I'm just plain ignorant of what these kinds of things go for.

Now the scabbard, different story. You could maybe get up to $50 for that. 2) Taiwanese MK2 no collector value that I know of $5 or $10 no more. Now that 1st Issue MK2 Camillus w/scabbard, in your 3rd photo, at least $200. Just my 2cent opinion. Others, I'm sure have different ideas. Hope I helped a little. SKIP

Skip is pretty close on his evaluations though I think he is a little high on the nicer USN MKII, in my experience they rarely get over 150 in near mint condition.

Gary Cain-Went back and re-looked the early Camillus MK2. You're right, I did over-appraise it. For some reason or other the blade seemed to have a better finish at 11:30 PM. I do have a mint early screw pommel Camillus w/ mint sheath I paid $200 for a couple of years ago. Extremely beautiful knife. Thanks for keeping me straight! SKIP

How can you tell the length?

I don't see any measurements or ruler anywhere?

 

At leasthe can get a time frame of the Taiwan knife

And realize that the intials do not mean it was used in service

I guess it could have been carried in Grenada

proportions between the blade and the handle, as well as scabbard's length, given that the MK2/KA-BAR/similar are usually 1.75" wide, and the M8 scabbard fits them, not just the bayonets its for, that would give one a good reason to believe the knife shown with the M8a1 type scabbard is roughly 7 inch blade (might be little shorter from grinding edge?) the Jet Pilot knife is 5 inch blade, or just around there (might be 5.5?) definite differences between them, if the handle remained the same between the series....since pretty much the handles are universal sized (more or less...) and blade lengths can vary on forgings and cutting.

A Mark 2 type knife will not fit in an M8 or M8A1 scabbard. Not even close.

 

But agree the two knives are different as is the blade length.

so what were those scabbards that apparently fitted the MK 2 types other than the leather scabbards?? O_o how would one go about doing that? hmm now i am intrigued (figures, i didnt think to test it out at the gun/knife/flea markets :think: )
