Confederate Placque

I bought this on eBay as a birthday present for a buddy who has been collecting Civil War since he was 14. He turned 66 last month. Needless to say, he is hard to buy for. Don't ever buy the SOB a reprint of a Civil War book because, nine times out of ten, he has a first edition! We drool over foot lockers from WWII vets. He has the full grouping from a CW Captain including all his papers, sword, uniforms, etc. Then there is the foot locker for "Uncle Macki", who served in the Air Corps in WWI. Again, all papers, uniforms, etc., etc.

ANYHOW, I picked this up for a price I felt was proper on the assumption it was a reproduction. It is made of cast iron and appears properly old but, then, a repop made during the Centenial would now be over 40 years old.

Any ideas? Comments?

I have very little knowledge of any CW artifact but I did notice the two mounting holes on the plate are for countersunk screws. I doubt that countersunk screws existed in 1862. It is a nice looking plate no matter what date.

Yes, these are reproductions of the Confederate seal. I have a brass one that I use as a paperweight.
