WW1 Farrier Collar Disc

Another bucket list find for my Farrier/Veterinary Corps/Veterinarian US Army insignia collection.  This one came from this weekend's 2026 ASMIC Annual Military Show.  The gentleman I purchased this from was selling part of his collection from over 40 plus years of collecting.  He definitely had some interesting and scare insignia available.

This is a WW1 Farrier collar disc with the thin horseshoe and wide V. I have seen some of restrikes/repros from Naugatuck Novelty Company with the thick horseshoe, thin V, and distinctive raised hump around the screw-post (I have a few in my collection) but have not seen this variation in person prior to this weekend.

This insignia appears to be authentic and matches the detail in The Collar Disk Story by Scipio (pg. 115, Plate 14, 12).  I have added that image to this post for comparison.

I know there is controversy if these were worn, but I have also added an image of a WW1 Soldier who appears to be wearing the disc from portraitofwar.com to keep a grouping of information together on this forum.
