June 10Jun 10 #1 The photos here do more justice than I could possibly write, but this is absolutely the nicest helmet that I own (not that I'm a huge helmet collector). The helmet is a front seam, fixed bale and the liner has everything I'd look for in a WWII liner (can't recall the manufacturer). They have clearly been together forever, given the damage to both, which can be seen on the reverse. I wish I knew the story behind it. The paint is beautiful, although our LT forgot that one ray is supposed to be pointing down, not up. Surely he had bigger issues on his mind. I'm currently a Lieutenant as well, so this one is particularly close to me. The helmet is propped up on a piece of CDP from my last ship, which was my parting gift from the wardroom.
June 10Jun 10 Author #2 Belay the fixed bale comment, I think those are swivels! It's a front seam for sure though. I have another fixed bale helmet and I think I'm used to just saying that combo.
June 10Jun 10 #3 If you post this in the helmet forum, you'll get better eyes. You are in the uniform forum.
June 11Jun 11 #4 Definitely swivel bales on this one. I agree with dmar, move it to the helmet section. Lots more eyes and comments there.
