Snowflake Naval Aviator Wing - Prewar?

Featured Replies

I have had this in my collection for a few years. I remember reading somewhere that these "snowflake" badges were prewar. On the obverse, the high points are polished. It's a really beautiful set of wings.

Any and all info you can provide is welcome!

Very nice Amcraft badge, I personally always liked these.

However, no, this is NOT a pre war badge.

This wing badge conforms to the 1942 change to wing regulations of a series of small feathers in the shoulders.

These small feathers quickly transitioned to the “berries” that are associated with 1942 onwards that we are so familiar with.

In my opinion, this wing, and a few other designs that are similar, are a transitional designs that directly conformed to the change.

Regarding the snowflake back, other insignia by Amcraft, such as DI’s had the same back pattern in WWII.

Hope that helps, nice wing, solid WWII.
