A few LBV questions.

I got an LBV yesterday and I added the extra alice canteen covers and mag pouch I had. I saw that using two mag pouches seemed to be common? I only have one for now. Is there anything I should add or change? Also was the compass/first aid pouch usually used with it? I already have one that I could add. Also was a butpack normally used? All i have right now is a m1956 butpack. 20260225_221357.jpg.0630fd4779b8257e6f96cdc769de673d.jpg20260225_221755.jpg.88ef0e3cb07a387c5d046fb960b53e59.jpg20260225_221950.jpg.b6d7f1e67e5b567dc6f3008cdd36fd64.jpgon a side note does anyone else feel stupid taking pictures of yourself in the mirror or am i the only one?

You don't need any additional mag pouches when you have the vest.  There are three magazine pockets on each side of the vest.  Likewise, you could use one of the grenade pockets for your compass/field dressing pouch. You do need the canteens.  There is also a butt pack designed to be used with the vest.

Observations.

- items were issued based on what the unit was authorized due to location; deployment priority; weather expectations etc…. So one canteen may have been all that was authorized but many purchased a second canteen.  By GWOT the water situation had improved.

this LBV came out along with the internal frame large rucksack and small pack.  They totally sucked balls in real use.  The first ones had solid panels and not the mesh yours has.  Either way they were hot, unpopular and looked like crap when you had a formation or Div parade.  For field use I saw many just go back to personally owned LBE.

There are always two sides to cool old kit items.

I have seen photos of it being worn with two extra pouches.

The contract on the vest is 2004 so I was trying to put a basic example together from around that time. I have been reading up on the vest here on the forum and I can see some of the problems with it. I'll have to wait till it gets hot here to see how bad it is in that regards. Definitely the LBE is better for the most part but I did find a use for this vest.

If I was going to use the compass/first aid pouch where would it go? Also I noticed that there seems to be an area on the back that seems like you could attach something with alice clips there. Was that done? and if so what went there?20260319_213908.jpg.284d770ee77ce529202264f21e850969.jpg

LOL had just the Opposite

Our company got the LBV and since the rest of Bn didnt the CSM (during FTX) forbid us to wear it after we turned in the LBE pouches and y harness

We arrive at Drum everything nicely adjusted and taped , tied

Knucklehead knows we have no LBE and still tell us forbidden to wear

so there we are an entire company carrying mags either in our BDU pockets or the 4 pocket bandoleers from Live ammo, Pistol belts and canteens with MILES harness

Mech authorized 1 Canteen, Light authorized 2
