WWII ThirdMarDiv group - WIA on Bougainville

Some weeks ago we were contacted by Cabrina with an offer to donate her father's artifacts when the could be brought up from Kentucky. This morning we met her mother and step-father and received a nice grouping from WWII Marine Hubert House, who, along with his brother Carl, served in the Third Marine Division. Hubert was wounded in the left arm, chest and back by gunshot and shrapnel on 19 November 1943 during that battle for Bougainville. He was evacuated to the United States and ultimately served as a Guard at the US Naval Hospital in Norfolk, VA.

Sharon has a number of photos and all his doc, which she'll send me copies of. She's keeping his Purple Heart and dog tags for now. I was surprised to find his (cased) interment flag in the box, along with a Vietnam dated compass pouch with 10 spent shell casings, which I assume are also from his funeral.

I was happy to see the campaign hat in the photos I was originally sent. But, that turned to disappointment when I saw the stamp in the liner....still it's got a nice EGA on it. I assume he bought it out of a feeling of nostalgia, or someone bought it as a gift for him.

There's an NCO sword that more than likely was his brother Carl's. It's also a Japan Sword made sword, so that was a nice surprise. The leather has completely deteriorated and fallen off the steel scabbard. Other than the Japan Sword marking, it's completely devoid of any other marks.

...and the blouse. I'll need to restore the EGAs and ribbons....note that he sewed another Third Marine Division patch on the right side. I got a ton of doco off  Ancestry last night, but I'm interested in seeing the doco his wife/daughter have.
