I've recently purchased this M51A5 fuze (postwar), which is almost identical to a M48 and a M51 fuze externally.

The problem is that I can't disassemble the head from the ogive (the big body just under the head), I hope I'm using the correct terms.

 

I've noticed that on the back there is this small dot:

It looks like a sort of small welding point or something like that.

Could this be the reason because it's not possible to disassemble it? Is there something I can do?

I am not sure why this hasn't been replied to. I'm getting around to catching up on this forum. Anyway, looks like the dimple is a form of staking to keep it from coming apart. The very top brass part would unscrew from a shaft that is attached to the solid base of the fuse. The center section is a fairly thin stamped part that is held in place between the top and bottom piece. Once the top brass piece is unscrewed/removed, the thin metal windscreen will just lift off the base (if I remember correctly). That staking looks pretty deep so may not be easy to remove the top part without damaging it. There's not much to see under the windscreen anyway.

I would leave it alone, forcing or drilling it will end badly.
