Hi all,

 

I bought these crosses out of interest, but they don’t really fit with my WW2 (and later) medal collection.

As you can see, the stamped numbers match those on the boxes, identifying them to 1SG William Joshua Tiller (Company D, 41st U.S. Volunteer Infantry Regiment) who was the son of Civil War veteran Henry Dickerson Tiller (Company F, 7th Battalion, South Carolina Infantry) as identified on the SAW Cross box.

The box of the Philippine Insurrection Cross is a bit damaged (looks like a rubber band or maybe a pair of scissors ripped into it), and the ribbons on both medals are very fragile (the one on the SAW is almost ripped all they way though in the front).

In addition, the pin of the Philippine Insurrection Cross itself is missing.

 

Regardless, these seem to be scarce medals with only a few 100 pieces made and awarded to descendants of CSA veterans.

 

What would be a fair asking price for this pair?

I saw one of these sell recently for $300.

2010 FJP Auctions had one, Est. $1200 to $1500. Not sure of the hammer price.
