Given to me several years ago and I finally opened it.  Screams military, but all my routes to its identity have been dead ends.  Any help is much appreciated.  Thanks, AlIMG_4439.JPG.4f336ec70c3629a911174cce1dffd8ca.JPGIMG_4440.JPG.4ad392d52fedfcd7c9c8891efdde9884.JPGIMG_4441.JPG.fd37ee2d6d72c2c235fa806a3e6bcb11.JPGIMG_4443.JPG.20d615a71d40b9e31651fd47af2774d9.JPGIMG_4444.JPG.480548759a3c530c4d7f5c0d222f5ed1.JPGIMG_4445.JPG.9240108b0ea23d8d98ea78db964bdc84.JPGIMG_4447.JPG.9ac512a1b321eb1b579e0cf22ab0d1d5.JPGIMG_4448.JPG.10015e3a1214067b0bcddd1a4f7775cc.JPG

I believe this is a M1 Garand Spare parts/small parts pouch.

Thank you Leigh.  The label doesn't follow standard USGI numbering.  That's what is throwing me off.

I agree,, Sometimes I don't understand the whole system either...

Best regards

The question for me remains:  Why would an item that would most probably be issued in bundles of 10 tied together with string, be packaged individually in heavy craft paper with a label that is not in USGI format----then individually tied like a Christmas package with a piece of jute twine?  Does being dated in 1952 give a clue?

I am a Viet Nam vet---I still like the FSN.  So simple.

Confused, Al

It might just be a coincidence, but the stock number begins with AO58. In the Army's numbering system, the StandardNomenclature List (SNL) has A58 for the M3 submachine, and one of those envelopes is authorized for spare parts for that gun.

Wild guess for me but maybe it’s some kind of non US government contract?

Thank you robinb and mikie.  And yes, as robinb said, it is an envelope, not a pouch.IMG_4653.JPG.efd1f81ea577c787282d1a8e8830877c.JPGIMG_4653.JPG.efd1f81ea577c787282d1a8e8830877c.JPG

These little pouches were issued for all kinds of weapons spares. They are listed in the BAR handbook and Thompson handbook as well as several others. Just a generic pouch for small parts. You can find them dated be maker marked and also stamped MRT 45 for being treated.

Good info BG688.  If you look at the label, the stock number begins with AO.......Auto Ordnance?  Thanks, Al
