February 3, 201016 yr #283 I just joined this forum to find out about this helmet so I was happy to find this thread. It confirms what I've noticed already - that I seem to have the only helmet that looks to have been professionally painted. It lacks the funky, personal charm of the rest. I haven't figured out how to post a photo yet but I'll get one up soon. Meanwhile, you can see it here. I bought it in San Francisco when I was 14 (1968). It had the liner but it was rotten and has since fallen apart. I had assumed it was post-war but it sounds as if the First Army didn't exist much between the wars except on paper. It seems a little precious to have been painted near the action so I wondered if it may date from the immediate, post-war occupation.

February 4, 201016 yr #286 Woo Hoo! FYI This is pretty much how it looked when I bought it. The big ding and attendant rust spot look the same as they did 40 years ago. It's marked ZB61. The shell is non-magnetic but the rim isn't. Again, is this an odd-ball vis a vis the rather polished aspect or what?
February 14, 201016 yr #289 US Third Division 'Rock of the Marne'. This is a US issue helmet named and identified to an Ohio soldier of the 38th infantry.
February 14, 201016 yr #290 And last, but certainly not least is my most recent acquisition: a 2nd Division USMC 1/6 helmet. It is US-made without chinstrap but with a beautifully executed Indian-head insignia.
April 13, 201016 yr #294 Camo 90th WW1 helmet with complete liner and chinstrap--the brown shape on the top is Texas. I have wittled down to about about 70 high quality camo's that I have collected over the last 20 years. I will post one from time to time. Nice thing about them is that moths can't find much to eat. Dave
