October 21, 2025Oct 21 #1 Good morning all, As I have focused my collection on the Marines, I have a few random items left from other branches that I'd like to pass on. Curious what the concensus is on this remarkable object. It is a Record-a-Voice record created by a young sailor when he was stationed in DC. It is dated 12/7/41. At the conclusion of singing a hymn to his mother, he states that he "just heard the President declare war". He makes no mention of it being a radio broadcast, which strongly suggests he was in the house chamber, an eyewitness for the Day of Infamy speech. Record plays but has some parts where it skips. Eager to hear everyone's thoughts. Realize it may be difficult due to the uniqueness of the object. Thanks in advance! -VFG
October 22, 2025Oct 22 #3 It is certainly interesting and unique. But, unfortunately, I don’t think that translates to any real monetary value. It’s the kind of thing some collectors would pick up as a curiosity piece if really cheap. Beyond that, I don’t see much collector demand for it. Now, had this singer’s first name been “Johnny” rather than “Marvin”, that might be a different story!
