were the carbine clip pouches with two belt loops adopted to go with the m56 belts or were they earlier? what was the reason for the change?

They were first fielded in WW2. The WW2 ones seem a bit harder to source in the lighter tan or OD. Recall a couple I have are 1943 dated. Will see the dark Olive drab pouches start in 1944

transitional ones with mismatched lighter OD bodies and darker OD7 trim appear in 1943 as well. never seen a 1943 full OD7 pouch though.

I am asking about the pouch with two belt loops. I think you may be talking about the WW2 pouch with a snap on the back. I think the type I am asking about came after WW2.

I assume the change to the two belt loops made production quicker and cheaper.

Cheaper with less material, faster and it was made a bit larger to hold 2 Garand clips or 2 carbine magazines.  Post war wearing the pistol belt and pouches for the Garand became a more common thing, rather than the M1923 cartridge belt.

There are a few on ebay right now. Here's an example dated 1944. I don't think I've seen a 43 dated example but it's possible.

well, I've learned something new. I would have bet money that those pouches were a postwar item. thanks for the info. 

the postwar examples are more common than ww2 era ones with the dates I've seen being 1952 and 1953. they are basically identical and were used extensively in the Korean war and into Vietnam. completely fair to believe they were revised post war.

They do exist with 1943 dates.

I haven't seen the first Drawing but here is the Pocket's Rev 1 and Rev 2 drawings.

Have seen a B.M.C. 1944, KADIN 1944, KADIN 1945 All having NO Bottom Grommets.
